1998: The branches of the Association were formed in Lagos and Warri.
1999: In July 1999, the Association’s National Body (National Executive Committee – “NEC”) was inaugurated in PH. This consisted of the principal officers of the 3 Branches of the Association. Late Mr. J. A. Akinlotan was elected the first Hon. National President of the National Body. However, as a result of critical illness, Mr. Akinlotan who was ex Shell Pensioners Association Finance Controller and later Chief Internal Auditor, unfortunately died after about 1 1 /2 years in this position. He was succeeded by Late Chief Emma Odogwu who was at the time the Hon. Vice Chairman of the Lagos Branch of Shell Pensioners’ Association while late Mr. Ben Manze Ejiogu assumed the position of the Hon. National Resource Fellow of Shell Pensioners’ Association of Nigeria.
In year 2000, the Shell Pensioners’ Association of Nigeria was given formal recognition by SPDC Management, and the National Executive Committee (NEC) became the accredited representatives (voice) of Shell Pensioners in relating with Shell Management on pension and related welfare matters of Shell Pensioners.
Following this development, and the subsequent production of the Association’s National Constitution, the Presidency of the Association rotated every 2 years amongst the 3 branches (Lagos, Warri and PH).
